He proposed in front of a waterfall in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. We rented a cabin for a few days for our anniversarry right on top of the mountain. We woke up early and headed downtown to have some breakfast at the cutest diner. I could tell he was excited and a bit off. I just had no idea what was coming. After breakfast we headed to the National Park to go on our hike. The start of the hike was amazing! It was beautiful and relaxing. Then, we started going down different trails and somewhat got lost. Let me just remind you there are no bathrooms in the middle of the mountains! We both had to pee, it was freezing yet hot, both of us were stfuffed from breakfast.. it was a recipe for disaster. Let’s just say, we were not friends on that hike! When we got to the end of the trail, there was the last and the best waterfall yet. He insisted we see it, regardless of how we felt. At the waterfall, we sat and talked for a second. While he carved our initials into the bridge i turned around to take pictures. When i turned back around he was on one knee. Shocked (and still having to pee) i quickly turned away from him crying (apparently that’s not what you’re supposed to do). In that moment nothing else mattered except for him and I and the fact that we were going to start the rest of our lives together. We sat for a bit longer then headed back to the car, and as soon as we got in the car it started to rain. We did agree to never hike again. We’ll see how long that lasts, because as much as we say we hate it, we absolutely love hiking. It was the perfect day, and the perfcet proposal.
