The historic town square at the heart of Sonoma was the place of the Bear Flag Revolt, where Californians declared independence from Mexico and formed their own short-lived independent nation. Today, the Plaza is home to a beautiful park and surrounding restaurants, wineries, and shops as well as a Franciscan Mission.
