We're Married!

NOVEMBER RECEPTION CANCELLED

Dear friends and family, As many of you already know, our wedding plans were one of the many special events affected by the pandemic. We are happy to report that we took these changes in stride, and had a small ceremony on June 6, 2020, instead of the large event we had planned. It was a bittersweet moment, but we are thrilled to be married, and we knew all of you were cheering us on in spirit! Wanting nothing more than to celebrate with our extended friends & family, we moved our reception to November 21st, thinking this would surely be sufficient enough time for things to return to normal. Fast forward to today and we are still in the same position. With that said, we are going to forego our intended reception. We know you understand and we have felt the love and support from everyone throughout this journey. With Love, Tyler & Joy

How We Met

April 2019

We were lucky to have met though mutual friends. Mark told Joy about Tyler, and Hannah told Tyler about Joy. Neither of us were interested in dating long distance (Joy from Washington, Tyler from Minnesota), and so we pretty much refused to entertain the idea even in the slightest. Despite Hannah's persistent encouragement, Tyler refused to take Joy out on a simple coffee date when he was in town on numerous occasions. Finally, the day we met, Hannah invited Joy to come hang out while Tyler was in town. The only reason Joy even agreed to come over was because she REALLY wanted to meet Mark and Hannah's new dog...not to meet Tyler. The four of us spent the evening chatting and playing games like a bunch of old friends. Tyler knew immediately that "there's something special about that girl". Joy went home thinking "hmmm...well that was interesting" and pretty much put Tyler in the friend zone. We started texting the next day, and really never stopped. Tyler went back to Washington 2 month later and we went on our first date. Over the course of the next 6 months, we travelled back and forth to each others' home states, going on dates, meeting each others' friends and family, and falling in love. Long distance relationships are really challenging, but we both knew that God had brought us together. We took things one day at a time, trusting the Lord's timing of everything. On December 7th, 2019 we got engaged. And now we can't wait to celebrate with you all! For the official record, Mark said "if this works out, it was my idea. If it doesn't, it was Hannah's". So thank you, Mark, for setting us up!
