Things To Do

We hope you enjoy the East Bay as much as we do. We love Oakland's beautiful outdoors and amazing food scene. Check out a few of our favorite places in the place we call home! Note: We aren't including recommendations in San Francisco or Napa - but, they are a short trip away. If you plan on going there and are looking for ideas, feel free to shoot us a text or email.

Lake Merritt

Oakland, CA

One of the best places to walk and experience Oakland. There's a three mile walking trail, kayak rentals, and a ton of cute shopping areas surrounding it. Don't miss the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings.

Redwood Regional Park

7867 Redwood Road, Oakland, CA 94619
, (888) 327-2757

You don't need to go all the way to Muir Woods to see stunning redwoods trees. Check out Redwood Regional - an awesome East Bay park with beautiful redwoods and hiking trails.

Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve

Oakland, CA 94611
, (888) 327-2757

Yet another amazing place to hike... you might be picking up on a theme! Gochu & Joey hike here almost every week.

Joaquin Miller Park

Oakland, CA

Another stunning place to go for a hike. Lots of hikes with variable levels of difficulty and an array of landscapes. The Dunn Trail is Christine's favorite Bay Area hike.

Morcom Rose Garden

700 Jean Street, Oakland, CA 94610
, (510) 597-5039

This precious rose garden is blocks away from Christine and Joey's old long time apartment. It's an amazing place to spend some time looking at the exciting array of roses.

Enssaro Ethiopian Restaurant

357-A Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610
, (510) 238-9050

Oakland has amazing Ethiopian food, and Enssaro is one of our favorite spots. You can't go wrong by ordering the Veggie or Meat Sampler platters.

Grand Lake Kitchen - Lake Merritt

576 Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610
, (510) 922-9582

Christine's all time favorite brunch spot in Oakland. Save room for the donuts at the end of the meal. They have a second location in the Dimond District that is a little larger - and also delicious.

, (510) 625-8889

Amazing Szechuan food with a strong set of Taiwanese dishes as well.

A must-stop noodle shop. The Chongqing Street Noodle with the Knife Shaved Noodles may be the best single dish in Oakland.

Farmhouse Kitchen Thai Cuisine

336 Water Street, Oakland, CA 94607
, (510) 419-0541

The most fun Thai restaurant in Oakland. Don't miss the fried chicken and save time for a walk around Jack London after.

A great casual spot to get a beer or a pizza. Centrally located & good vibes.

Curbside Creamery

An ice cream store 2 blocks from us where the dairy-free ice cream is as good as the dairy-full ice cream -- and the soft serve is better! Sign Christine up!

Fentons Creamery

4226 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611
, (510) 658-7000

One of the Bay Area's iconic ice cream shops. Don't order a sundae unless you come with a crowd!

Montclair Golf Enterprises

2477 Monterey Boulevard, Oakland, CA 94611
, (510) 482-0422

Our favorite driving range! You can rent clubs there, and they have an easy par 3 course and an attached dive bar.

Joey's favorite local golf course if you're looking to play a round while in Oakland.

Oakland Museum of California

1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA 94607
, (510) 318-8400

A true gem of Oakland - this museum covers an array of California and Oakland specific history. Check out their special exhibits, the Friday night food truck festival (where museum admission is half off), and the stunning garden — although we are making you go to the garden for the reception anyway.

Oaktown Spice Shop

546 Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610
, (510) 201-5400

This is the best spice shop in the state of California. All of the spices are fresh, it smells incredible, and they will give you recipe cards if you have never used a new spice blend before!

Temescal Alley

Temescal Alley, Oakland, CA 94609

Shop like a real hipster. This is a strange little alley with apothecarys, plant stores, vintage shops, and great ice cream and coffee. The dairy free soft serve in this alley is one of Christine's favorite things; they also have dairy-full don't worry.

Berkeley Bowl West

920 Heinz Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94710
, (510) 898-9555

A trip to the United States of Berkeley isn't complete without a stop at the world's most Berkeley grocery store. Go for the massive produce section, the kombucha on tap, or the excellent people watching.

Kona Club

4401 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611
, (510) 654-7100

This is the best bar in the world.

Telegraph

2318 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94612

Amazing team and boba! Check out the seasonal fruit teas - made using custom fruit purees.

Snow White Coffee

, (510) 808-7655

Christine and Joey's neighborhood coffeeshop. If Alex is working, tell him we sent you :)

Souvenir Coffee

917 Washington Street, Oakland, CA 94607

An excellent coffee spot in downtown Oakland - with a Claremont Ave location as well. Detailed tasting notes on all of their coffees.

The CRO Café

Alley 49, Oakland, CA 94609

One of Gochu's two favorite coffeeshops. They give out dog treats & the espresso drinks are good.
