We met through Jason's cousin, Kyle. One day during Taylor's sophomore year, Kyle showed up to Taylor's house after school to introduce her to his cousin Jason- a tall handsome guy that had just transferred from Los Gatos High School to Branham High School. Taylor thought he was cute and was curious if he had a date to junior prom since it was just a few weeks away and he was new to the area. After several meetups at high school baseball games and hangouts with mutual friends, Jason asked Taylor to his junior prom. Although both of them made sure that the other knew that "it was just a date to prom, nothing serious." As fate would have it, Taylor and Jason went to junior prom.... Well junior prom and 3 more proms after that, they figured out this was no longer just a high school fling. They adopted the neighbor's runt of the litter puppy (Chanel) right after Taylor graduated from high school and have known it was "forever" ever since. We have now had 4 fur babies (Chanel, Hank, Bruce, and Kobi), a real baby (Patrick), and bought a home during the chaos of 2020. We are truly excited to finally celebrate our love with you all!
Jason is really big on surprises. Like REALLY big. Taylor, not so much. In November 2019 (geez, has it really been that long?!), Jason told Taylor he wanted to take her somewhere but "not to get too excited". After lunch, they ended up in a jewelry store "just to take a look" at rings. After this, Taylor knew the engagement was coming but Jason had a plan to make sure it was still a surprise. A BIG surprise. In January, Taylor had school as usual and an event which involved socializing with the new PhD recruits. Jason was secretly planning the surprise with the help of Taylor's labmate, Eric (also our officiant). Eric and Jason planned over several days to pull off the surprise of a lifetime. The event took place at the Seymour Marine Discovery Center in Santa Cruz. Taylor was presenting a poster to the new recruits. At the end of the evening, Taylor won a poster award! Taylor carpooled with Eric that day, and as they were leaving he told her that "they had to walk the other girls to their cars since it was dark". Taylor was too excited about her poster award and blindly followed them to a dark alley leading to the ocean. Taylor was even texting Jason as they walked. As she was typing, everyone seemed to slow down to a halt right in front of her and she looked up. There was a group of people that were way too dark to see, and candles leading up to the ocean, with a tall dark figure near the railing overlooking the ocean. Taylor was so confused and wondering what they had all just walked in on. All of a sudden, a little white dog starts running up to Taylor! Followed by a big hairy mountain dog! Taylor immediately recognized those dogs as they were hers! Then the dark figure near the rail started walking towards Taylor, and she could finally see who it was! It was Jason. In front of our friends and family, Jason got down on one knee right there under the stars in front of the ocean with candles surrounding them and asked Taylor to marry him. Taylor was shocked and obviously said yes. Jason accomplished his surprise.
