Kyle planned a trip to an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic for Laura’s birthday in September of 2022. He also planned a birthday photo-shoot with the resort’s photographer and a private dinner on the beach afterwards. The photographer continued to take pictures on the beach during dinner and distracted Laura by asking her to pose for a solo picture gazing out at the ocean while Kyle sneakily knelt behind her holding a ring box. The box held Laura’s grandmother’s wedding band because he was “worried the engagement ring wouldn’t arrive in time.” Laura was incredibly close to her grandmother, so being presented with this ring, and the thought that Kyle put into it, instantly moved her to tears. But while Laura was putting on this ring, Kyle pulled a SECOND box out of the sparkly pink gift bag. This box had a LIGHT in it, which shocked Laura so much that she jumped backwards and started laughing (which the photographer captured). This box held a stunning orange sapphire, surrounded by diamonds, set low, exactly the way Laura wanted. There were tears and laughter and hugging and all of this while we stood on the beach and the full moon rose over the ocean. It was magic. And yes, Laura was completely surprised.
