We’re getting married!

Conor and Naomi first met in the Fall of 2017. Conor was living in Austin, working his first animation job. Naomi was in her final semester of college, doing an internship. They both had a magical little app on their phones called Coffee Meets Bagel. They connected on the app in late November and messaged each other for a little time. Eventually on December 3, they met in person for a coffee date. On December 7, they had their third date, in which it snowed for the first time in Texas since Naomi had moved there in the summer of 2014 (talk about romantic and magical)! The bookstore and ice cream date stretched into the wee hours of December 8, when the couple made their relationship official. P.S. It was really a miracle that the two met. Conor was only in Austin for 5 months, while Naomi had originally planned to intern in Ireland!

Many people know how Conor proposed. But do you know how he even made it to Naomi so that he could propose? Here goes! Conor had a flight later on friday night. There was a layover in Las Vegas and his flight from there was meant to get him to Austin by 5:29 AM on Saturday to be exact. Naomi received a call around 3:40 AM from Conor. She, wishful thinking and all, mistakingly thought perhaps he had made it to Austin extremely early. His words sent those wishes crashing down. His flight to Austin was cancelled and the only option that would allow them to maximize their time together was for him to fly into Dallas at 1:49 PM that day. After some deliberations, the couple decided Naomi would drive her mom’s car to pick Conor up in Dallas. Naomi’s car is a stick shift and Conor, who doesn’t yet drive stick, wanted to lovingly drive them back to Austin. So Naomi eventually heads to Dallas. After the majority of the way there, she gets a call from the love of her life that informs her that his flight is delayed until further notice. 10 minutes to the airport, she then finds out that that flight was officially cancelled, but that he would be flying in at 5:29 PM with another airline. So Naomi pulls off somewhere where she can get food and gas and wait for the time she has been long awaiting to arrive. It finally does and she is pretty nervous, but also ecstatic. They are FINALLY together!! On the drive home Conor is quite concerned with making sure Naomi’s mom (Isi), aunt (Ose), and best friend (Clare) know when they’re getting to Austin. He’s also driving pretty fast and it’s kind of scaring Naomi, but she figures there must be a reason ;).

They get to the house and Conor knocks on the door. Instead of the front door opening, the garage door does and Conor slips into the house and the door is closed behind him. Clare comes and hugs Naomi and sweeps her away into the room at the back of the garage while telling her not to ask any questions. Naomi is instructed to choose a dress (she already has) and to get ready for a fancy dinner in the house since Conor’s travel fiascos eradicated the possibility of the couple making their dinner reservation that night. Naomi 100% knows what is happening at this point. She knew 95% prior, but it was indisputable at this point. After getting ready, she walks up the stairs where there are rose petals sprinkled and whimsical decorations. She makes it to the top of the stairs where she sees Conor, as handsome as ever, standing in the living room within a heart made from rose petals and outlined with candles. Her “Slow, Romantic Songs” Spotify playlist is playing. She walks up to him and they slow dance and talk. He reminds her of the time he told her that he thought he was moving to Austin to get his dream job, but instead he got his dream girl. He stated that he was glad that he knew that so early on. Not too long after, he jokingly mentioned that although his shoes didnt have laces, he needed to get down to the floor for some reason. He picked up the ring box, got down on one knee, and asked Naomi to marry him. And of course, she said, “Yes, Conor, of course!” After a little more slow dancing, he put the ring on Naomi’s finger, and then they slow danced a little more. Finally, they enjoyed a few bites of their fancy dinner and the rest is history.
