Places to Eat, Things to Do

The Wedding Website of Ellie Powers and Conor Scharlop
The Camden/Rockport/Rockland area is known for several renowned farm to table restaurants and beautiful downtown areas. Here are some of our favorite or highly recommended spots in the area for those looking to enjoy the fantastic local fare and shops.

Samoset Resort

220 Warrenton Street, Rockport, ME 04856

For those staying at the Samoset: One of the best parts of staying at the Samoset is that you don't have to leave the property to enjoy the Maine coast. If you have some free time, here are a few of our favorite ways to spend it: Walk to the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. The iconic granite breakwater begins just beyond the resort and leads to one of Maine's most photographed lighthouses. It's about a 1.75-mile round-trip walk with incredible views of Penobscot Bay. Relax by the oceanfront pool or play a round of golf. The Samoset's championship course is famous for its stunning oceanfront holes. Treat yourself at the spa or enjoy the outdoor games. The resort offers pickleball, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, disc golf, cornhole, and other lawn games that are perfect for families or groups!

Downtown Camden

Charming and quintessential Maine, downtown Camden is just a short drive away from The Samoset and well worth a visit. Stroll along the harbor, browse the local boutiques and bookstores, or grab a bite with a view of the boats in Camden Harbor. For breakfast, we love Buttermilk Kitchen. For lunch or dinner, you can’t go wrong with Franny's Bistro, Cafe Louis, or one of our personal favorites, Fresh & Co.. With its classic New England charm and scenic backdrop, it’s the perfect spot to spend a relaxed afternoon.

Downtown Rockland

Downtown Rockland is another fun waterfront town just minutes from The Samoset, and a great place to explore while you’re in town. Wander along Main Street, pop into local shops and galleries, or walk the harbor before grabbing dinner at a local spot- we recommend In Good Company. Our wedding weekend happens to fall during the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland! If you’re coming into town early or staying a little longer, or just looking to eat some lobster, this is a fun way to experience one of Maine’s biggest traditions. Enjoy fresh Maine lobster, local food, live music, and plenty of festivities right in Rockland. https://mainelobsterfestival.com

Primo Restaurant

2 Main Street, Rockland, ME 04841

10 minutes from the Samoset, Primo is one of Maine's most celebrated restaurants. Led by two-time James Beard Award–winning chef Melissa Kelly, the menu changes with the seasons and showcases ingredients grown and raised on the restaurant's own farm. It's the perfect spot for a special night out before or after the wedding, but we recommend making reservations in advance!

Franny's Bistro

55 Chestnut Street, Camden, ME

One of Ellie's parents favorite spots in Camden is Franny's Bistro on Chestnut Street. It’s a cozy, intimate neighborhood gem serving incredible American classics and fresh local seafood.
