When Connor and I met we worked at the same dealership. I was in sales, and he a mechanic! I had worked there for a while, but because I never had to go to the dealership shop, I never knew who he was, and he didn't know me. lt wasn't until I needed an Allen Wrench to take the roof rack off my car that we met. We both remember it like it was yesterday. I was told by his best friend, Cameron, who was a service advisor at the time to ask the redhead in the shop to borrow one. And when I did, Connor stopped what he was doing and gave me the deer in headlights look, it was the first time we had ever met. Then he offered to do it for me, then he asked me on our first date. It wasn't until about a year later that I learned that deer in headlights look wasn't because he thought I looked pretty. But because I asked him to use one of his tools!
Our first date was pretty simple. He picked me up at my house and we went to my, which is now our, favorite local restaurant. We got something to drink to ease then nerves and bonded over our favorite appetizer, fried pickles. It was a very awkward first date. Those who know us well know Connor is the quiet one and I am the opposite. So you could imagine how I felt as I talked his ear off and he just listened. Afterward, I was nervous that maybe I talked too much, maybe a bit overwhelming for the first date. Then I got the call for a second date. I was overwhelmed with joy. I think it was the shared love for fried pickles that made us both think "There might be something here".
When you think of a marriage proposal most people want over the top dramatics, with an audience. Not Connor and I. We are both very simple. I believe it was a Thursday, we both worked that day. At this time he still worked at the same dealership and I worked at one closer to home. Unbeknownst to me, he got off work early to rush home, make my favorite dinner, spread candles, and yellow rose petals all over our living room. I remember my day at work had been rough, I worked late and all I wanted to do was go home and sleep. When I walked into the house all I saw was the rose petals and the table set for dinner. I couldn't believe that he would do so much for me just because I had a bad day at work. But then I saw him. On one knee with a small box in his hand. At that moment all, I could think about was how much I can't wait to be his wife. It was just perfect.
