Both reach for the handle, it’s raining, this is the last cab in the biggest city. Their hands touch, their eyes meet. The cab fare is split while their hearts are made whole... Ok... That's not exactly how it went, but it’s better than thanking the internet. We first met at a quaint wine bar in the Upper East Side, conveniently located a block from Maureen's apartment incase she needed to make a run for it. Connor (being handsome, chivalrous, intelligent, and the one that wrote this part) caught an uptown train to meet, for the first time, the woman who’d become his wife. With a bottle of wine and cheese plate between us, the hours ticked by as we talked about family, friends, hobbies, and whether Empire is better than A New Hope (it is). Connor set the bar “high” off the bat with a rock climbing date, a home made Valentine's Day Dinner, and taking Maureen to her very first New York Rangers game. Things started simply enough, trading trips between the Upper East Side and Greenpoint, Brooklyn, but quickly grew more serious, from meeting the parents at a friend’s wedding (who Maureen conveniently forgot to mention were attending), to sunburns in St. Barths, po’boys in New Orleans, and skiing in Zermatt, the two of us were falling in love. Even despite a pandemic that kept so many people apart, we grew closer.
When it came time to take the next step, Connor, against all odds (and with the help of a dishwasher, driveway, and proximity to Wegmans), convinced Maureen to leave her beloved Upper East Side and move in with him in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Our love grew and Connor's closet space shrank, and all the while, Connor had been planning something special for months. On Maureen's birthday Connor called her to the end of a block overlooking the East River to surprise her with a big question and a little box. Connor took a knee, Maureen immediately realized it was not the puppy she had feared, and said, HOLY SH*T YES! The unforgettable moment became an unforgettable night, celebrating with family from near and far in the best backyard in Brooklyn. We are so excited to keep writing our story and can't wait to celebrate with you all in October!
