A 40-plus year tradition in Edenton, the Peanut Festival and Battle of the Bands is held on the first weekend in October to celebrates the peanut industry and what it means to the people of Chowan County. The festival features a parade, food, arts and crafts vendors, a farmers market, exhibits, rides, music, entertainment and so much more. The parade starts at 11 a.m. and ends at John A. Holmes High School, where the festival takes place all day. The Battle of the Bands pits regional high school bands against each other in a friendly competition. That event is held in the high school stadium later in the day. Proceeds of these events benefit the instrumental music programs of Edenton-Chowan County Schools.
The Edenton Farmers Market is a non-profit organization providing local farmers and craftspeople the opportunity to showcase their produce, food items, and other goods. Shoppers can find anything from local fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs, cheese, honey, baked goods to artisan soaps and other craft items. Come to make new friends, and support the local community.
