A Kickback Love Story

It’s funny how life works. The night we met wasn’t planned, romantic, or even particularly special at first. It was just a regular Saturday night. My sister and I were supposed to hang out, but she suggested we make a quick stop at a little “kickback” at one of my brother’s closest friends was hosting. We walked in and the place was full people laughing, vibing, music going, the usual weekend energy. I didn’t notice Jermel at all. Not a glance, not a spark, nothing. It’s wild to think about that now. But as the night wound down and people started heading out, that’s when we finally crossed paths. Almost like the universe waited until the very end to tap us on the shoulder. We decided to take a shot together before leaving just a simple moment, nothing dramatic. He walked me to my car, we exchanged numbers, and that was that. The next day we met at Chop House for our first date. It went great easy conversation, good energy but afterward, we didn’t talk much. Life was just life-ing. Two weeks later, out of nowhere, I get a text from Jermel saying “So did you kick me to the curb?” We set up another date bowling this time and something clicked. The timing, the chemistry, the comfort everything aligned. And now here we are engaged, in love, and building a life that started with a random kickback, a last-minute shot, and a text that still makes me smile.
