Originally we met in high school and had a few classes together. But we really got to know each other when we both started working at Sawyer Car Wash. Throughout our time working together, we became good friends, would vent to each other, and Conner would even sometimes stay past his shift to hang out with me or wait for me to close and walk me to my car at night. One night, Conner finally came out and told me how he felt about me. I was taken back by it at first and didn't give it to much thought. Never the less, he persisted and won me over, and the rest is history. We started dating, and then shortly after Conner started his journey in the United States Marine Corps.
Conner left for the Marine Corps in January of 2014 and thus our long-distance journey began. Throughout that time together (figuratively) we saw many places and experienced many new things together as well as a part. Conner was stationed in India for a year, which caused us to be a part for 11 and a half months (our longest time apart). We are both so thankful for all that our time apart has taught us and can't wait to see what the future brings TOGETHER!
I was visiting Conner in Virginia. We decided to stay in Old Town, Alexandria as we had already stayed in D.C. and thought it would be a nice change of scenery. We spent the day walking around downtown and went to a cider festival during the day. We had gone back to our hotel to hang out for a little bit before getting ready for dinner that night. After our pre-game nap, I headed into the bathroom to begin my getting ready process. I stepped out of the bathroom to get something and saw Conner standing outside the door on one knee. I stopped in my tracks and uttered, "What are you doing?", before he could even spit anything else out. It ended with me obviously saying yes! We spent the rest of the night eating good food and drinking good drinks. We stayed in our newly engaged bubble for the night and decided not to share with our family and friends that we were engaged until the next day!
