How We Met and When We Knew

From Co-workers to Lovers

Molly's Point of View: When I was a senior in college I got a job at McAlister's deli in Lawrence which quickly led me to becoming a shift manager. Soon after we hired Sara Comstock and with her being so talented in making sandwiches she quickly became a manager as well. Her huge family used to come in and visit and that's when I first saw Jake. I immediately told Sara she had a cute brother and asked how old he was. Luckily for me, we were the same age. Months later Sara let us know that Jake had applied and I would be interviewing him! I quickly told Sara that it would be really funny if I dated her brother (little did I know). When I first saw Jake he wasn't quite what I remembered. His eyes took my breath away, and his smile was near perfect, but his hideous beard kept me from being unprofessional (sorry Jake). Months later the beard was gone and I started to pick up on his affection towards me, texting me on my days off wondering how to bake the spuds even though he worked and lived with his sister who could've told him exactly. Finally after months of waiting, Jake asked me out a week before my last day at McAlister's. We went out to eat and then bowled together. On our way home Jake sang "Death of a Bachelor" by Panic at the Disco and as soon as he hit one high note, I knew immediately that was the man I was going to marry. Jake’s Point Of View: I moved into an apartment in Lawrence with Sara while attending KU. I didn’t have a job during the Fall semester, so by the time Winter came around I needed one. Sara had been working at this sandwich shop, McAlister’s, she always brought home tasty food and funny stories about one coworker in particular. I just had to meet this strange person that I had heard so much about so soon I applied. To my surprise, that very same person was the one that interviewed me. When she asked me what my zodiac sign was, I knew. I knew that she was as weird as Sara always said. Fast forward a little bit to us working together frequently, laughing at her jokes, and doing anything I could to hear her laugh. I knew when I heard that laugh that I could listen to it for the rest of my life. I told myself if we ever went on a date that she would be the person that I married. When she told me one day that she was single, I immediately asked her on a date. I knew she was the one when at dinner, she spilled her first bite of food on herself. And then again at the bowling alley afterward she spilled our pitcher of beer, and once again I knew. That I would be cleaning up her spills for the rest of my life. From that night on I was hooked. Soon after we went long distance, it was hard, but it made us stronger. I knew from the visit to each other, the first kiss, the first date, and the first time I ever heard her laugh that this was the woman that I was going to marry.

For all the days along the way
