Chelsea and Phil met one summer while working at the same company. Chelsea was heading into her senior year of college, and Phil had just moved home from London. A mutual friend at work, who knew Phil well and had become close with Chelsea, was convinced their shared interests made them a perfect match. She took matters into her own hands and set them up with tickets to a Chicago Cubs vs. White Sox game. What began as an easy, fun night quickly blossomed into a summer romance. What Chelsea did not know at the time was that Phil was planning to move to Australia in the fall. When summer came to an end, they suddenly found themselves on opposite sides of the world, Chelsea back at school and Phil abroad. Neither was ready to let the relationship fade. From 9,000 miles away, Phil called when Chelsea’s day was winding down and his was just beginning. He sent thoughtful emails and even flowers, finding ways to stay close despite the distance. After finals, Chelsea flew out to visit him, unsure of what the future would hold. That trip changed everything. Instead of extending his time overseas, Phil chose to move home. Since then, they have built a life together, complete with their Alaskan Malamute, Koda, and continue to enjoy the journey they are creating side by side. ♡
