This is the perfect 30 minute day trip from Lisbon. There are many beaches in Cascais including: Praia da Conceição and Praia da Duquesa (These two beaches are right next to each other and provide easy access to bars and ice cream kiosks. They are also easy to get to by train). A bit more hidden is Praia da Rainha, which translates to Queen’s Beach (It used to be a private beach for Queen Dona Amélia, but now everyone is welcome here. Because it’s so small, it gets crowded very quickly, so it's suggested to go here later in the evening). Beyond the beaches, Cascais is full of attractions, from art museums to relaxing parks and a lively food market.
Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT)— is a modern cross-cultural hub that brings together visual arts, urban affairs, technology, and science. The permanent collection and the rotating exhibitions run the gamut, from pop art to ceramics to wood sculptures. There’s even an archival collection about the history of Portuguese electricity. It’s also home to what is now the most impressive collection of contemporary Portuguese art.
Visit one of the most significant monuments in Portugal with an entry ticket to Lisbon Cathedral. See the baptistery, the treasury, and the high choir, then enjoy views of Lisbon from the balcony.
Aside from the must-see permanent exhibition, you can expect temporary displays, a variety of activities (how about sleeping with the sharks?), and an outreach programme that hosts events outside of the city.
