A Modern Love Story

It all started with a swipe, an extension, and Rachel Green. No seriously.

In September of 2021, the two matched on Bumble and Sam sent a GIF of Rachel Green waving to start the conversation. The two instantly bonded over their love of the show Friends, concerts, Dallas sports teams, dogs and sushi. The two went on their first date to the movies. Most people say that's not a good first date activity, but Sam and Colyn proved them wrong. Movie dates became their staple. Most Thursday nights early in their relationship you could find them in a Cinemark eating some movie theater popcorn and sour patch kids. They both have an insane love for live music and going to concerts together was a must even though their genres did not intertwine. Sam loves her emo/pop punk bands and pop stars, while Colyn loves EDM and his rappers. Sam has stayed up past 2 AM for EDM shows and Colyn has driven to Austin a few times because Sam's favorite band did not have a show in Dallas on their tour. Experiencing each other's version of therapy is so important to them, that losing sleep is worth it. They became each other's best friend and knew that this was something special. In 2023, skipping artificial milestones they set, they moved in together because it just felt right. After a couple months, he knew he wanted to propose. Fast forward to July of 2024, Colyn began sneakily looking for Sam's ring. He knew exactly what kind of ring she wanted without even asking her. In August, he found the one after some extensive searching. He found a way to sneak off to her parents' house to get their blessing. When he asked them they said "Of course! You are already apart of the family!" after a nice hug with Colyn and his soon to be family, they ate some Wingstop. He sent a picture to Sam, teasing her about the food, but little did she know the significance of that moment. Further behind the scenes, Colyn began planning with his Mom on how to ask the most important question of his life. He decided to do it on her birthday. He planned a trip to the Hot Air Balloon Festival in New Mexico and a train ride through the mountains. Going over the details of the moment thoroughly to make sure it was 100% right. After a nice day in Santa Fe with his family, they arrived at the train station where Colyn sneakily planned out the moment with the train staff as his family distracted Sam. He figured out the details of the exact moment where the train would stop during the sunset in the mountains and he had his Mom speak to the musician in the train car to play "Fly me to the Moon" after the big moment happened. It was finally time. Colyn led Sam out to the deck of the train car. His heart was beating fast and his thoughts racing as he still was figuring out the right words to say to her. Once the train stopped.. and the sun started to set.. the world seemed to stand still for a moment. He finally found the right words to say, "When did you know you loved me?". They spoke about all their time together. How each moment was wonderful and sweet and how much they meant to each other. Colyn finally dropped to one knee. Sam saying "No, no, no" as she was hit with the shock of the moment and the fear she may ugly cry in front of strangers (she is beautiful no matter what). Colyn asked the question she had been waiting for, "Samentha Sangnapah Vongphachanh, will you marry me?". Like a moment in a movie, a photographer captured what would be one of the happiest moments of their lives. They shared a kiss and walked into the train car to the sound of "Fly me to the moon" playing. Festivities and congratulations filled the air as a Bachelorette party and a couple on their honeymoon celebrated the newly engaged couple, a happy coincidence of a full circle moment with each stage post engagement accounted for. After they got back, planning was so easy. They found their venue the same week they got engaged. They had their wedding party already figured out. It was just a matter of time, waiting for December 19th, their wedding day...
