Mary and Alex first found each other on an online dating app called Hinge, which goes by the slogan “the app that was meant to be deleted”…and it certainly was for them! Both Alex and Mary had tried their luck on pretty much all the dating apps to no avail, deleting them and redownloading them several times. They were starting to think they would never find their Lobster (The person they were meant to be with). Both had recently decided to attempt another go at finding love, and while individually scrolling through the app, they were excited to come across each other’s profiles. Alex was immediately drawn to Mary’s unabashed love for Harry Potter and similar taste in movies and TV shows. Mary enjoyed the humor in Alex’s profile as well as the pictures displaying his love for family, travel, and dogs. Thankfully they matched, and Alex’s first question was “What house are you?” in reference to the Four Houses of Hogwarts, the school of magic within the Harry Potter series, that students are sorted into based on their personalities and characteristics. Alex and Mary were overjoyed to discover they are both Hufflepuffs, who value kindness, selflessness, and strong friendships. After sending many long messages back and forth ranging from their shared love for animals, light-hearted banter, deep life topics, and many ridiculous puns supplied by Alex, they both could tell this person was different from anyone they had talked to before. On their first date, they both admitted to being very nervous but ended up talking and laughing for over 4 hours. They still joke to this day how Alex thought the date was about to end when Mary asked for the check and put on her coat about an hour into the date. Later Mary stated that she was used to being ready for dates to end after dinner, but Alex’s great conversation skills and charming personality kept Mary in her seat, which was a huge relief to Alex! They continued to go on dates and found themselves having so much fun that they didn’t want them to end. It was an easy decision for them both to delete Hinge as they knew they had found someone special. Over the next few years, they embarked on several trips and adventures together. From day trips to Duluth (where they first said “I love you” to each other), road-tripping to Colorado (where Alex used to live), and doing their monthly surprise dates exploring the Twin Cities. They also moved into an apartment together and adopted their cat Queen Phoebe. In August of 2023, they planned their biggest adventure to date and took a trip to London with two of Mary’s close friends. Mary and Alex took a side excursion to the coastal peninsula of Cornwall, where the two of them ventured to the little beach town of St. Ives. Upon looking out over the entire coast of the beautiful city, Alex got down on one knee and Mary happily agreed to be his partner and best friend for life. They are both elated to take the next step into the Grand Adventure that is marriage and to continue living in Hufflepuff Harmony now as husband and wife.
