Josh and Jessica met their first year at Longwood University in their freshman seminar class. They technically met the very first day of classes, although Jessica did not quite remember this, and could only remember Josh's best man, Tanner. It wasn't until sophomore year, when they both joined Longwood Ambassadors, that they really started to get to know each other. The following three years were filled with science classes, ambassador meetings, and of course, Josh's drunken visits to Jessica's room where he rolled around on her floor. There were many hopeless study sessions in the attempt to pass Quantitative Analysis of Chemistry and Alpha Chi Sigma events where Josh had to 'wheel and deal' to become Jessica's big. And of course, there was the infamous drunken event senior year where Josh went to visit Jessica and ended up 'tossing his cookies' on her kitchen table and had Ashleigh's boyfriend clean it up. You know, typical college memories!
Shortly into the new year in 2014, Josh had reached out to Jessica and asked to get together while he was in town visiting some college friends. After a nice reunion and some chit chat here and there, Josh began persuading Jessica to come and visit him in Chesapeake for Valentine’s Day. After a LOT of attempts, Jessica finally said "why not." Much to her surprise, Josh had planned the perfect Valentine’s Day/first date weekend that included a top notch GF dinner at Burton's, a chilly walk on the boardwalk to see Neptune, a relaxing wine bar, and some late night games at Dave and Busters....that was just the first night. The next day they shared a GF pizza and went to a hockey game, sat directly behind the goalie and smuggled in margaritas. Who wouldn't fall in love with that!?
It all started on their anniversary in Feb 2018. Every year Josh makes a scrapbook of the moments from the previous year for Jessica, however, this year was different. The last page of the scrapbook was missing a picture and had a mysterious note about how to find it. There were rules and riddles to finding this picture and Jessica had to solve them to find the "where, when, and the what." The first riddle started the hunt and over the next 2 months she struggled and worked to get these riddles solved, with the fear of not getting the picture. After trial and error, and with the help of Ruxin, Jessica figured out the picture could be found April 1st at 1:26PM at the Carlyle House in Old Towne Alexandria. The time, date, place, what she was wearing, what route she would take, all of it was pre-orchestrated by Josh...it took some planning. Now I am sure you are thinking "she had to know it was going to be a proposal," but Josh had told her he was working at the firehouse that day and to bring a friend to help search. Naturally, Ashleigh (Jessica's Maid of Honor), joined in for the search. Ashleigh knew what was going on but played along nicely and helped Jessica along to get to Old Towne. They finally arrived in Old Towne with no time to spare at 1:25PM and Jessica spotted a blue envelope sticking out of the bushes of a sun dial in the gardens of the Carlyle House. She rushed over to it, without noticing a group of people taking pictures as she ran by (Josh was hidden among them). As she stood there, reading the note, Josh slowly and quietly walked up behind her as she read out loud "turn around" and BAM...they were face to face; Josh with a photographer waiting. Big question, easy answer! And I know what you are thinking "did she get the picture!?" and yes she did. Josh had bought a new kind of photo printer that captures a video moment and saves it to the printed picture for Jessica. That proposal moment is now the last page of her scrapbook.
