Mylee first met Collin in 2012 when she was just nine years old. He had come to her church with a mutual friend, and as soon as she saw him, she excitedly told him that she would be going to his school the next year. Looking back, she admits she was definitely awkward, but Collin was nice about it. That was their first interaction—short and simple, but the beginning of something neither of them could have predicted. When Mylee started school, she was the new kid. She sat next to Collin at lunch every day in fourth grade, where they and their friends would compete to tell the scariest stories. By fifth grade, they still weren’t exactly friends, but they talked a lot on their class trip to Camp Carter. Mylee thought Collin was funny—Collin probably just thought Mylee talked a lot. Then middle school came, and things changed. They didn’t talk at all. Collin was part of the “cool clique,” while Mylee considered herself a little awkward. Still, she always cheered for him at his basketball games, even though he never seemed to notice. By high school, Mylee was ready for a fresh start. Their paths crossed again freshman year when they had history class together. Then, somehow, they kept ending up in the same English classes. They spent time goofing around in class, and at some point, Mylee started gossiping to her friends about him because, well… she was crushing. At first, she told herself it was just a silly crush—until one day, Collin took a selfie on her phone. That was it. She was hooked. Unfortunately, Collin still saw her as just the “weird girl.” By sophomore year, Mylee had come up with a plan. She joined the golf team—not just because of Collin, but it definitely didn’t hurt that he was there. She even convinced him to carpool her to practice every day. Collin started sitting at her lunch table, and Mylee, in true over-obsessed fashion, made sure to buy him food more times than she’d like to admit. That year, she invited him to her Sweet 16 and somehow convinced him to dance with her. Later, she ran home and screamed about it to her mom. Then… COVID hit. With school shut down, Mylee and Collin didn’t see each other for a long time. When classes finally resumed, they were placed in the same English class again, but Collin decided to finish the year online. Mylee was disappointed—he had been sitting next to her, and just as she started to think maybe, just maybe, something could happen, he was gone. She texted him often, but deep down, she didn’t believe it would ever turn into anything. As one last attempt, she begged him to come to a party with her. He actually showed up… and then got grounded for it. That was the moment Mylee decided she was done with boys. And then, unexpectedly, Collin started asking her to hang out that summer. By senior year, everything felt different. At their senior sunrise, Collin was attached to Mylee’s hip the entire time. She was in disbelief—was this actually happening? Then, as fate would have it, they ended up in English class together again. They sat next to each other and FaceTimed every night for “homework help” (at least, that’s what they told themselves). When homecoming came around, they decided to go together—not as a couple, just as friends. Mylee was excited but tried not to get ahead of herself. She didn’t want to get her hopes up. And then, at the senior bonfire, Collin kissed her. After that, everything fell into place. That Thanksgiving, Mylee and her family invited Collin to a Dallas Cowboys game. He joined them, and from that moment on, something felt different between them. Now, over three and a half years later, here they are—getting married, proving that sometimes, the best love stories are the ones that take their time.
