It was Christmas 2021, neither one of us had our children on the evening of Christmas; they were each at their other parents' house. Knowing I (Ashley) wasn't going to have my children Christmas night, and not wanting to be by myself, I searched for somewhere to volunteer. Ironically, actually, God ordained, there was only ONE place that you could volunteer in the DFW area ON Christmas. This place was called Dallas Life. It is a homeless recovery shelter. I had taken a nap that afternoon and woke up late, so wasn't going to go, but I felt the nudge to go. I pulled up and saw this big huge truck in the parking lot with antlers and a BIG red nose on it! I was like, who in the world has that on their truck!? LOL! So, I thought I was running late, so when I walked in the guy said, "Just take a seat because we are still waiting to serve." Well, I walked through the door area, and as I did I said, "I guess I'm going to need to find a friend." Little did I know, I said it loud enough for people to hear. I looked around and everyone was seated as a couple, or as a family. I kept looking for a seat, and found a guy (Collin) sitting by himself. He did not have a ring on, so I asked him if I could sit with him. He said I could, and we began to chat. When it was time to serve, he jumped out of his chair and went to get his assignment. I was like, well, okay then. LOL! However, throughout the night we would talk, work on projects together, etc. Toward the end of the night, he asked me what I was doing after leaving the shelter that night. I told him I was going to a popup bar around the corner. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was going to join me. At the end of our volunteering the people that were running the volunteers said they thought we had been together for years. We told them we had just met that night. They said that they felt something was there and good luck to us. :). So, after volunteering we continued our time together at a little pop up bar in the Trinity Grove area....and the rest is history! :)
