It was a beautiful late summer night with an orientation leader’s promise of an epic bonfire in the middle of the Johnson State campus quad. Looking to meet new people, Collin and Annika both attended with a teammate. Almost instantly they made eye contact, in part because of the lack of people but also because the “bonfire” was no larger than soup pot. The two groups joined, speaking about sports. Collin shared about his impressive skiing abilities, followed by an immaculate back flip in hopes of impressing Annika. It worked and as the night continued, they quickly developed a friendship. At breakfast the following morning, Annika confided to her friend that “I don’t know when, but Collin and I will be together at some point”. They began dating 25 days later.
