Our story began on a sunny Saturday morning at a local 5K fundraiser for my sister and Collins brothers school. I wanted to miss track practice that morning as there was a speed workout, and chose to run the 5k instead. As it turns out, Collin was, too—trading baseball practice for a friendly race with family and friends. We both almost backed out the morning of, but decided to go ahead and run. As we gathered at the starting line, we noticed each other right next to one another. Little did I know, Collin was already plotting to beat me in the race. When the race began, the adrenaline kicked in. We both took off, determined to beat the other. Collin managed to get ahead and as the finish line approached, he crossed over first, but that was only the start of everything to follow. That day, Collin and I not only supported our siblings’ school, but also found an unexpected connection. From that moment on, our playful competition transformed into a beautiful partnership. Now, as we prepare to walk down the aisle, we look back on that day with gratitude for the race that brought us together.
