Colleen had not planned to attend a special dinner honoring Edie Barasch, the woman she had just interviewed for a story about special education. Her car had broken down the day before and she had spent most of the day at a repair shop in the Bronx, but changed her mind when she found out a charming colleague, Vince, would be there, too, to honor his mother Edie's work at the New Rochelle school system. The two ended up chatting in the back of the event hall and got drinks after at a local bar, under the guise of watching the Rangers in their 2017 playoff run. Their love story would end up writing itself. The next five years were a whirlwind of New York City adventures, moving into their beloved five-floor walk-up apartment on the Upper East Side, growing closer through a pandemic, finding out they would be welcoming a son (!), getting engaged, and then purchasing their condo in White Plains.
