Excellent Thai restaurant -- and one of Colleen's all-time favorite Pittsburgh spots located in the hip Lawrenceville neighborhood.
If you're looking for a traditional Pittsburgh activity, along with great views of the skyline, this is your spot! Once you arrive at the top of Mt. Washington take some time to explore the local neighborhood with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
One of the most beautiful spots in Pittsburgh -- encompassing 15 acres including a 14-room glasshouse and 23 gardens. It's perhaps best known as the spot where Craig proposed to Colleen in what can only be described as a flawless proposal.
Primanti Brothers sandwiches? Check. IC Lights? Check. Stiller's gear? Check. Incredible ethnic food? Check. The Strip District has it all. It's gritty and authentic Pittsburgh. That's why we're hosting our Friday welcome party there -- so be sure to stop by and then check out all the neighborhood has to offer. Also, fun fact, after building his first factory in the Strip District in 1871, George Westinghouse not only invented air brakes and AC current, but introduced paid vacations and half-days off on Saturdays. Something we can all celebrate.
For those architectural buffs out there, or if you're just interested in seeing a beautiful house nestled in the hills of southwestern PA, come check out Frank Lloyd Wright's harmonious masterpiece of art and nature known as Fallingwater. It's about an hour and a half drive from the Burgh, but well worth the trip. And for those of you driving from DC, it's an easy stop to make along the way back home. Just make sure to get reservations early -- especially since the leaves will be in full bloom and it will sell out weeks in advance. And as an extra bonus you'll get to drive through the area where Craig grew up!
A must see for anyone interested in learning about the history of Pittsburgh. The museum includes six floors of interactive exhibitions that feature iconic artifacts like the TV set from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”, the world’s oldest jeep, and exhibits celebrating Senator John Heinz, Jonas Salk's discovery of the Polio vaccine, and the invention of the Big Mac (shout out to Uniontown PA on that one, you're welcome).
Another must-see neighborhood for those visiting the Burgh. Lawrenceville has a bit of everything from great food, to shopping, to museums, to breweries, so take a stroll down Butler Street and see what catches your fancy. A few great options include: The Roberto Clemente Musuem; Church Brew Works (drinking at an old church, what's not to love); and Thunderbird Cafe; just to name a few!
Enjoy brunch in the Union trust building!
