As is so common today, Colleen & Adam met thanks to an online dating service. What made it interesting is that when they matched, Adam was at work in Boston and Colleen was at home in Scituate. The app showed that they were 19 miles away from each other. Colleen assumed that meant Adam lived in Boston, Adam assumed that meant Colleen lived somewhere west or north of the city. When they matched, Colleen asked, "So, where do you live?" Adam responded, "This small, seaside town on the South Shore called Scituate, I don't know if you've heard of it..." As it turned out, they lived less than three miles from each other. It got even weirder when they realized that Adam worked in the beer industry - just like her dad and brothers! On top of that, in a picture of the sailboat Adam built, Colleen noticed a special design called a triskele inlaid in the wood. She had the same design tattooed on her right forearm - which she happened to get on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th. She later found out that Adam's dog, Tiller, was born on St. Pattys! Even with all of these things in common, it still took them a few weeks before they finally met in person. Adam was convinced Colleen wasn't interested anymore, and Colleen was just dealing with being sick thanks to her kids. Finally, they agreed to meet up for a drink on a Friday night at the Barker Tavern in Scituate. Immediately, they both felt so comfortable with each other - they could have talked for hours. This Valentine's Day, they celebrated their relationship together at the Barker again - it will always hold a special place in their heart.
On November 2nd, 2019, Adam completely surprised Colleen by popping the question while they were hiking (if you haven't seen the video, head over to Colleen's Facebook page) They had plans the following weekend to celebrate their anniversary with a winter camping trip. The night before they were supposed to leave, they looked at the weather and realized it was going to be the coldest weekend of the year. Rather than spend it huddled next to a fire, shivering, Adam suggested they look for an Airbnb. Colleen was a little stressed by the fact that it was so last-minute, but when they stumbled upon Peak's Island, they were intrigued. They both loved the idea of taking a ferry to an island where they could be secluded for the weekend. The first night they got there, they grabbed a bite to eat at one of the two restaurants that were open. The waitress saw Colleen's ring and asked, "Are you here to check out wedding venues?" As she went on to explain, Peaks Island happens to be a very popular wedding destination - but of course, they had no idea! The next afternoon they decided to walk the 4 mile radius of the island. It was frigid outside and Colleen asked to duck into the Inn at Peaks Island to warm up and use the bathroom. When she walked in, she noticed the door to the manager's office open. She popped her head in and asked if this was where weddings were held. The wedding coordinator, Jayson, happened to be right there and said, "Yes! We have one starting in 15 minutes. Would you like to walk around and see it set up?" It was just too perfect. Colleen -- and then Adam, while Colleen stayed outside with Tiller -- walked around the venue and loved it. The wheels started to spin imagining what it would be like to take over the island for a wedding. On top of that, Maine is reminiscent of the lobster trap table that Colleen discovered in Adam's home - a particularly sophisticated decor choice that Colleen's parents had in their home growing up!
