Mary's Version: I had just moved back to the US and I’d been praying to the Lord to put some Godly people in my life, so I started looking for Bible studies or a young adults group to join. My friend, Laura, invited me to a group that she attended on Tuesdays so I decided to try it out—and that’s when she introduced me to Colin, and a couple other people who to this day are some of my closest friends. I only found out after we got together that Laura already told him about me, and wanted to set us up. Let’s just say we did NOT like each other when we first met. I couldn’t even imagine us as friends, nothing clicked. I remember telling Hannah when I got home about the strange people I met that night, one of them being a weird guy with long hair and who wouldn't stop talking (aka Colin) and wasn’t totally sure if I’d go back. We didn’t meet again until a year later, when our mutual friend started doing movie nights at his house, and from then on, it seemed like we always saw each other around (haha or at least he tried to see me around). After a while, Colin told me he liked me. It seemed out of nowhere since I didn't really know him that well. I told him I wanted to just be friends, buuut eventually we went on a date. Funny enough, it ended with the both of us not feeling it *again.* For some odd reason we gave it another chance, and well, the rest is history. I had no idea that three years later, God would answer my prayers to put Godly people in my life, because He gave me Colin. — Colin's Version: Let's see…where to start? The day I met Mary was like any other Tuesday—which was me going to young adults group. I set up my chess board by the door like I always did, but when I looked up in the middle of a game, I noticed her walk in and was immediately floored. I had to figure out a way to talk to her or get her attention. I saw her talking to our friend Laura, and instantly texted her “who is she?” Laura said that this was the girl she told me about weeks prior, but in person I didn't recognize Mary from her photo. She looked completely different in the best way possible. However, in our conversations I didn't feel a connection, so I refrained from getting to know her more. A year later, I noticed she was significantly different. She was more outgoing, sociable, and reaching out to others—that re-sparked my interest. As the weeks went by, I waited patiently since she always had suitors around (I knew they didn't have a chance). When it slowed down, I tried to fit in more conversations with her, but could barely get 2 minutes in before one of her many friends pulled her into other conversations. One day our friend Serge had a movie night and invited Mary (not a shocker), and discussed if it was cool with me to invite her. Of course I said yes since we talked about me making my “move” even weeks before the movie night was a thing. He’d always say we’d make a great couple but I didn't want to put the cart before the horse…not just yet. We didn't say much to each other during those movie hangouts, but when it was time to head home I’d walk her 5 feet to her beat up van and we’d talk for hours. I’d seen enough of her character to say “I've had a crush on you since the first day I saw you,” — but eventually the stars aligned for us to find each other odd, awkward, and weird…but I wanted to give it one more chance to see if it really wasn’t meant to be. I guess Mary wanted to find out as well. We had nothing to lose but everything to gain, so I gained…weight, gained a best friend, gained my biggest supporter, gym partner and pad holder, a couch potato, someone to make us late for church in the mornings waiting for her to get ready, and most importantly, I gained someone I can wake up next to and choose to be with everyday (not to mention wake up next to her smelly breath). I am truly blessed, and I can't thank God enough. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Reyes, you guys are real ones for trusting me. I promise I'll make her happy.
