March 27, 2016 – Gili Air, Indonesia It’s 100°F/37°C + humidity, middle of the Bali Sea, 8° south of the equator… IT’S HOT! Coming fresh off of “Southeast Asia scooter accident Part II”, Colin is wandering the beach at the Gili Air Music Festival bandaged on all limbs, oozing and sweating when out pops three Americans having the time of their lives. Naturally, Colin’s FOMO kicks in and wants a piece of the action, but unfortunately, they are on their way back to the neighboring island, Gili Trawanagan. Having hit it off in a few short minutes together, Colin asks Jess to come back to Gili Air the following night for what would be the start of their long, crazy adventure together! After spending 5 nights together in Indonesia, they never went a day without contact and knew something special was in the making. Less than a week later, Jess had the idea to meet up in NYC shortly after returning home from months abroad, and the rest is history! Flash-forward to May 3, 2019 – Exuma, Bahamas After nearly being stranded in Toronto and missing his own proposal, Colin has by no easy feat, surprised Jess with a trip to the Bahamas! She knows the proposal is likely coming, but when? Not being entirely sure either, he waits for the right moment. Having spent the day on deserted Coco Plum beach (the infamous Fyre festival was supposed to take place here), Colin sees the opportunity to bring it full circle to the fateful beaches of the Gili Air Festival. He sets up the GoPro and joins Jess on a swing in the water for a sunset pic. Little does he realize, the tide has come up and he’s nearly shoulder deep in waves… Committed and nervous as ever, Colin “gracefully” slips into the unexpectedly deep water and pops the question. After a minute or two of uncontrollable laughter, she says YES!
