December 11th, 2018, Colin and Alex went on a walk together in their high school and talked to each other one-on-one for the first time. In those three hours, they talked about life, their goals, school, sports, the future, and anything under the sun. What they know now is that they both fell for each other in that same moment. Roughly 2 months later Alex got a flat tire after school and said that she had called everyone else with no answer and didn't know who else to call. Alex limped her car to Colin's house and he aired up her tire, coming to the rescue. After that, they texted, hung out at school, and talked over Facetime over the next few months getting to know each other. On March 9th, 2019 they went on their first date to the Zeeland High musical "In The Heights". One year later almost to the day, the whole world shut down due to COVID-19, and they wouldn't see each other in person for the next 6 weeks. They spent most of the shutdown playing Yahtzee and watching movies over Facetime. About a year later, they went on a family vacation with Alex's family to Disney. The following year they went on their first road trip together to Detroit for the weekend. On April 7th, 2023, Colin proposed to Alex in downtown Grand Rapids. A couple of months after the engagement they took a long road trip through most of Michigan's Upper Peninsula then to Traverse City, and back home over 8 days. In November of 2023, they expanded their family and adopted their 4 1/2-year-old dog, Cedar.
