How We Met

October 2016

As luck would have it, we both joined the dating site "Coffee Meets Bagel". We were both a little leery about this dating app but thought we would give it a shot. Our first date was at Taisho Bistro, a Japanese cuisine restaurant. For Coleen, this was a quick date at a strange restaurant before going out with her friends. For Evan, it was a scrambled attempt to come off as exotic. Dinner went as well as it could have for a first date. Evan nervously rattled off a million questions in both English and "Italian sign language". Coleen quietly replied in three to four word sentences. This could have been in part due to her nerves, or her focus on whether or not the seafood was still alive. Evan offered to go out for drinks after dinner. Thankfully Coleen declined because Evan doesn't drink nor does he ball that hard (this was a large step up from previous dollar menu dates). The date ended with an awkward side hug from Evan and a farewell. To this day it remains a mystery how a second date arose. I guess the important part is we fell in love and could not be happier!

The Proposal

October 14, 2018

Evan has unlimited car washes at Delta Sonic and takes full advantage of going almost everyday. Whenever they would go through the carwash together, Evan would grab Coleen’s hand and ask, "Isn't this romantic?" Coleen’s reply was always a resounding, “No!” Evan found this very difficult to believe. Flashing fluorescent lights, streams of pressurized water, and gallons of hazardous car cleaning chemicals. You can’t have chemistry without chemicals! One particular evening while going through the carwash (conveniently Marry You by Bruno Mars came on the radio) Evan pulled out the ring and asked Coleen to spend the rest of her life with him. It is presumed Coleen said “Yes!” as it was difficult to hear a response over the air dryers. They decided to skip the dryers that day because it might be weird that they were both crying. Although to this day Evan claims he was not crying. Car wash chemicals make his eyes water.

The Ring

A little backstory on the wonderful ring: Evan bought the ring in Sicily from his family's jewelry store while they were on vacation. For months everyone in Evan's family knew, and referred to the ring as "brioche" so Coleen was absolutely clueless. One particular day Evan was texting his mom to bring the brioche over to the house. Coleen yelled at Evan that they could buy their own brioche and his mother did not need to bring some over. Little did she know Evan was referring to the ring which was hidden at his parents’ house!

For all the days along the way
