—Destination Details & More— St. John is the smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, about 9 miles by 5 miles, with over 60% of the island protected as Virgin Islands National Park. Accessible by a short ferry ride from St. Thomas, it’s known for its stunning beaches, including Trunk Bay, which has been ranked as one of the top beaches in the world. It boasts crystal-clear waters, lush landscapes, and temperatures averaging between 75°F and 85°F year-round—making it the perfect setting for a wedding in paradise. Below are some frequently asked questions to help you get ready for our big day!
Question

Do I need a Passport to travel to St. John?Do I need a Passport to travel to St. John?

Answer

No passport needed since St. John is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, all you need to fly is a government-issued REAL ID. Starting **May 7, 2025**, a REAL ID will be required for all flights within the U.S. and its territories. If you don’t have one by then, you’ll need a passport to board your flight.

Question

How do I get to St. John? How do I get to St. John?

Answer

To reach St. John, you'll first fly into Cyril E. King Airport (STT) in St. Thomas, USVI. From there, it’s about a 35-40 minute drive to the Red Hook ferry terminal, where you’ll catch the ferry to Cruz Bay on St. John, which departs every hour on the hour. Taxis are easily accessible at the airport for this drive, but you also have the option to hire a private taxi if you prefer. The ferry ride itself is a quick 15-minute trip, and once you arrive in Cruz Bay, the venue is just a short drive away.

Question

Where Should We Stay?Where Should We Stay?

Answer

The Hills St. John offers stunning accommodations right where the ceremony and reception will take place, with options for 2, 3, and 4-bedroom villas. We highly recommend booking directly by calling 1-800-727-6610. When making your reservation, be sure to mention the Adams wedding to receive a special discount. Booking directly ensures you avoid additional fees often associated with third-party services like Airbnb and guarantees the best possible rate for your stay.

Question

Do we Need to Rent a Car?Do we Need to Rent a Car?

Answer

No, you don’t need to rent a car! Taxis are readily available on St. John and can easily take you from The Hills to downtown Cruz Bay or to the beach. Just keep in mind that rideshare services like Uber and Lyft don’t operate on the island. If you’re not comfortable driving on the left-hand side of the road (a unique twist on island driving!), a taxi is a great option. The island's terrain is quite hilly with lots of switchbacks, so while you can walk to downtown Cruz Bay from The Hills, be prepared for a bit of a workout. For those who want to explore the entire island at their own pace, renting a car is a good option. For a more relaxed experience, taxis are the way to go!

Question

What is the Best Way to Book Accommodations? What is the Best Way to Book Accommodations?

Answer

To book your stay, contact Vacation VI’s reservation team. Nicole and Ginger will be happy to help you secure your accommodation, whether it's at The Hills or at the Marketplace Suites. Just call 1-800-727-6610. Be sure to mention the Adams wedding to receive a special discount! Again, avoid booking through Airbnb, as there are extra fees. Booking directly through Vacation VI will help you avoid those fees and guarantee you get the discount!

Question

Is The Wedding Child Friendly? Is The Wedding Child Friendly?

Answer

We adore your little ones, but we’ve decided to make our wedding an adults-only celebration. We hope this will give everyone a chance to relax, let loose, and enjoy the festivities. Thank you so much for understanding!

Question

What Should we Wear for the Outdoor Ceremony? What Should we Wear for the Outdoor Ceremony?

Answer

Since our wedding will be outdoors at sunset, we ask that you dress in "Island Fancy" – stylish and sophisticated, but comfortable, as it will be warm! No need for tuxedos or formal suits, but we encourage you to wear something that’s both stylish and sophisticated. For men, linen suits or linen shirts with slacks are perfect for the island vibe. For women, think summer dresses or chic, dressy attire. Dress for the occasion and embrace the relaxed yet elegant island atmosphere!
