How it all came to be

A small town, a wedding, and a long distance romance

It all started 12 years ago, when Andrew and 7 of his friends hopped in a van and headed to Southern California. Though they didn't know it at the time, the stop they made in Artesia to visit Jon's sister would be the start of an everlasting love. Throughout the years they continued to see each other in different settings, but the geographic separation meant that they always had to part ways in the end. That is, until one time while at a mutual friends' wedding Andrew stepped in as Kim's pretend boyfriend to save her from the advances of a much older man. They had a great time throughout the night and decided that this time they wouldn't lose touch when they had to part ways. When Andrew drove up to help Kim move into her new house in Brentwood, he almost had to stay there when his 1986 military Chevy Blazer refused to start; but Kim helped Andrew to get the vehicle back on the road and was so impressed that she decided to join Andrew on a roadtrip from California, to Boise, then to Portland and back in the former Army truck (it only broke down twice on the trip). After enduring that trip and being very patient with Andrew's graduate school schedule, Kim decided to join Andrew in San Diego, where they lived happily until their recent move to Salem, Oregon.

The Proposal

A trip to Oregon, a proposal, and a house

After Andrew accepted an offer with Kettle Chips in Salem, Oregon, the two booked a trip up to Oregon to find a place to live. It was a very eventful trip to say the least! After arriving in Oregon on a Friday morning, Andrew and Kim met with a realtor and looked at several houses they hoped to make their own. During the trip, they had time to explore Salem, and get excited about the new place they would soon call home. On Saturday, Andrew suggested that the two visit Bush's Pasture Park on Sunday morning, to which Kim replied, "well not if it's cold and rainy." Little did she know, the beautiful backdrop of the Park would be the place we she became engaged to the love of her life. They then celebrated this momentous occasion with a sushi lunch, and went to look at the house they would come to call their home.
