At the beginning of our senior year at Indiana University, neither Carly or Nathan could have expected how the year would unfold. In the fall, the two were paired together as small group leaders for the fall "Hoosier Awakening" retreat at their Catholic Student Center, St. Paul's. Despite being in the same community for 3 years, neither had really talked to each other much before this - so, Nathan reached out and asked if Carly would want to get coffee sometime, to get to know one another and talk about how to pray & prepare for the retreat together. Needless to say - it was a wonderful 2.5 hours spent over coffee. Much to their surprise, despite appearing like they were opposites on the outside, their hearts connected so well. Over the next month, in "preparation for the retreat," you could find Nathan and Carly going on rosary walks during the week, working out at the gym together, and driving to holy hour together in the morning. Essentially, every excuse they had to spend time with or talk to one another, they would take. The retreat happened the first weekend of November. And finally, after a whopping 30 minutes after the Hoosier Awakening Retreat ended, Nathan asked Carly on their first date. And the rest is history! Having experienced the sadness of being apart through long distance, and the warmth of being together, they are beyond excited to begin building their lives together as a soon-to-be married couple.
