Sam and Codye found each other in Tucson, Arizona. Sam was an Urban Planner with the City of Tucson, inspired to shape his community and Codye was deeply integrated in her community, working in behavioral health and ministry. Attracted to each others' values, Sam and Codye kept finding reasons to be around the other and after a year of pandemic flirtations, Codye asked Sam to hang out. Atop Sentinel Peak overlooking the city, they had their first date- Sam planned vegan tacos from La Chaiteria in Menlo Park. It was a warm summery night and Sam was so nervous he could hardly eat, playing it off like he wasn't that hungry. Four hours later, Sam and Codye were swirling their feet poolside looking up at the night sky, chatting about family. Soon came date #2, pizza with friends and date #3, a 20 mile group bike ride that tested Sam's calves and their ability to not cramp up. She was worth it. On July 14, 2021 Sam asked Codye to be his girlfriend. Over the years there were more dates and more trips. Codye and Sam have traversed urban landscapes with curiosity, wondering how our communities were built and how people could be served better. Together Sam and Codye have traveled to many cities including San Diego, Albuquerque, Fort Collins, New York City, Seattle, Barcelona, Copenhagen, and London, to name a few. Codye and Sam fell for each other hard and on July 7th 2025, Sam asked Codye to marry him. That's when it was decided that the Lego-loving, space-enamored, young man would spend the rest of his life with a Celcius slurping, seminarian who would beat him at a game of Bananagrams any day.
