Cody and Thalia met in January 2014 in Columbia, SC while working at AMC Theaters. They were both seniors at the University of South Carolina and approaching the end of their time as students. At AMC, they rarely worked in the same area so it would take a few months before they had an in depth conversation while working at concessions. The topic of discussion: Harry Potter. Thalia remembers when they both shared that they were Ravenclaws and ultimately, big nerds. While scooping popcorn and making icees, they found time to talk about favorite books, tv shows, and movies. A friendship was now turning into romance. Thalia would eventually invite Cody to her Cinco De Mayo party where they'd both develop a closer bond. Cody would then spend the next few weeks doing his best to win Thalia's affections. Finally, on May 28, 2014, they'd go on their first date for tacos and of course, to see a movie.

In August of 2018, Thalia and Cody left their home in Atlanta on what would be a two week adventure across Europe. Their first stop was Amsterdam, where they enjoyed their fill of art museums, dutch pancakes and blooming tulips. On their last night in the city, a waterfront dinner and private canal tour were on the schedule. Little did Thalia know, Cody had planned the whole evening as a surprise marriage proposal. In front of the Skinny Bridge, where couples who kiss are rumored to have their love last forever, Cody asked Thalia to spend the rest of their lives together. Thankfully she said yes - that would have been an awkward vacation!
