Once upon a time, I worked at the U of U's Marriott Library and stumbled upon a pizza party in the break room, where I met Cody's sister McCall for the first time. I explained my degree (video game school), and McCall reported that her brother was in the same program! Thanks to some sisterly intervention and encouragement, Cody started approaching me in our senior capstone class; we chatted, exchanged a few Facebook messages, and even hung out together in line at our graduation commencement ceremony. Our very first date was coffee at Greenhouse Effect (and McNuggets) in SLC on May 27, 2017.
Several jobs, one humble first apartment and a whole global pandemic later, Cody and I had the fortune of purchasing our own house in November of 2020. His expert secret keeping had me convinced that an engagement wasn't in the cards this year--but on Christmas Eve-Eve, we exchanged the stockings we'd made for one another in the living room of our 1950s bungalow. At the bottom of mine, tucked in the toe, was a ring box. Cody got down on one knee between the couch and the coffee table. Obviously, I said yes!
