We had just come home from a dinner with friends, and were changing into our pj's. I noticed he had stopped moving and was looking at me with this strange look on his face I had never seen before. I curiously asked him, "what?", thinking that he might have forgotten something at the restaurant. He looked down and quietly said, "I've been thinking a lot about our future". My heart stopped. Then slammed into my rib cage, and then stopped again. I'm pretty sure I stopped breathing and could have clinically been declared dead for a moment there. We had built our lives together. Been together for almost five years, had been living together for almost four. I had wanted to grow old together, to start a family together, to be buried next to each other with cute matching headstones. And he decides to drop this bomb?! I looked him in the eyes for what seemed like a lifetime. "What do you mean?" I asked, tears already gathering in the corner of my eyes. He simply (and way to calmly, I might add), asked me, "Will you marry me?" Well there went my heart again. Who knew you could have two heart attacks within the span of ten seconds? Now the tears were freely flowing; but instead of from devastation, it was with pure, blinding happiness. I ran across the room, wrapped my arms around him and laughed "YES!".
