How We Met

January 31st 2014

Cody and Rebekah met while attending Radford University together. For their first date on January 31, 2014, Cody picked Rebekah up from her dorm with flowers in hand. Technically, he picked her up from a sidewalk around the corner from her room. Cody mistakenly waited outside of the wrong dorm, which caused Rebekah to search for him. The two finally bumped into one another on a sidewalk in front of Peters Hall. The two shared a hug, and laughed off their memorable meeting. Cody took Rebekah to see "That Awkward Moment" at the Regal Cinema in Christiansburg. Following the movie, Cody took Rebekah to Starbucks (Rebekah was so nervous that she hardly spoke!) As they began to spend more time together, their feelings grew stronger. On the night of February 21, 2014, after hanging out at Cody's apartment, Cody asked Rebekah to slow dance to "It's Your Love," by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. When the song ended, Cody asked Rebekah, "Will you be my girl?" Rebekah answered Cody with a kiss, and after five years, she looks forward to sharing that same kiss at the altar on September 21, 2019.

Our Proposal

October 14th 2018

Cody wanted a personal touch that incorporated both their love of the outdoors and the most important people in their lives: family. Cody wanted to propose to Rebekah at Fort Monroe, where her father proposed to her mother 30 years prior. Cody was already staying in Hampton for a clinical rotation for school; the trick was getting his entire family to Hampton without Rebekah becoming suspicious. Once Cody received the blessing from Rebekah's parents (he was so nervous!), he casually told Rebekah that his grandparents were coming to visit that next weekend. Rebekah had no idea that Cody's parents and sister would also be traveling to Hampton, with secret plans to hide near the proposal site. Cody told Rebekah that he wanted to take his grandparents to Fort Monroe to visit the historical sites and beautiful scenery of the area. Rebekah had no idea Cody was planning to end the visit at the gazebo overlooking the water and historical Chamberlain building, where he would propose to her. Earlier in the week, Cody purchased tea light candles, flower petals and mason jars to decorate the gazebo for the proposal. Cody recruited the help of Cheyene, Ashley and Kristen to help set up the decorations at the gazebo. On Sunday October 14th, 2018, Rebekah and Cody took his grandparents to Fort Monroe. While Cody continued the tour of Fort Monroe, Kristen called Cody to inform him that there was currently a wedding happening at the gazebo. Cody, who was not surprised by the unfortunate circumstances, told Kristen to pick an area behind the gazebo for the proposal. As the tour approached the gazebo near the Chamberlain, Cody grabbed Rebekah's hand and broke away from his grandparents. Rebekah and Cody approached a circle made of mason jars with tea light candles and flower petals. Cody then got down on one and knee and popped the question. An overwhelming "yes!" could be heard from neighboring city Virginia Beach as both Rebekah and Cody's families watched from across the street.
