Their story, like many modern love stories, began with the phrase, “I swiped right!” (haha) But in all seriousness, it seemed to be fate that Cody, fresh out of grad school and new to Columbus, and Maddie, newly starting grad school and coming back to Columbus, happened to "swipe right" on each other. Both claiming to not really "be into the dating app scene", they took a chance when Cody asked Maddie for a first date at Roosevelt's coffee (right across from Cody's apartment, because you can never really be too safe, right Cody?) One date at a coffee shop led to several other dates, which included car trouble, nature hikes, and dinners cooked for one another. After almost two months of dating, on October 7, 2017, Cody asked Maddie to be his girlfriend (or as Maddie recalls, Cody simply started calling her his girlfriend, lol). Since that time, Cody and Maddie have gone through many milestones in life together; various times of being long distance, Cody moving to a new city (Dayton), starting a new job, and getting a dog, Finn. They knew early on in their relationship that the other person was special. Cody had found the kind of woman who provided him with the sass and attitude that he needed in his life, and Maddie found someone who could challenge her and add a little adventure and spunk into her life. The Proposal As Cody knew within the first year that he wanted to marry Maddie, he began his plans to propose the summer of 2019. On October 7, 2019, their two-year anniversary, he set his plan in motion. Cody came to Columbus on the guise of taking her out to a nice dinner to celebrate their anniversary. After dinner, they went on a beautiful walk to talk and enjoy the sunset with their puppy, Finn. Before going inside, Cody called Maddie back to him and Finn. Cody got down on one knee, proposed, and Maddie said “YES!”
