Travel Note
Keep your eyes pealed on your scenic drive from Anchorage to Soldotna. You will start your journey along the Turnagain Arm with steep mountains to your left that are home to many Dall Sheep and the ocean to your right where you may see some Beluga whales. You will continue though Johnson Pass where you will lose cellular service until you reach Cooper Landing and be in awe of the blue lakes and rivers. The terrain will start to flatten and you will be surrounded by debris from the Swan Lake Fire which burned over 100,000 acres in 2019. As you drop down into the town of Soldotna you will be welcomed by the grand view of the 10,016 foot Mount Illiamna Volcano in the distance. The town of Soldotna will have everything you need from, lodging, gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants. It is a good base camp for taking day trips to Seward or Homer which we highly recommend! Drive Safely and enjoy the journey.
