We met while working in the ICU at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. After awhile it became undeniable that there was a very strong connection between us. When I found out that I was on the waitlist to get into a DNP program at University of Washington in Seattle, I had to go in case a spot opened up and Cody understood. I moved to Washington in July 2019 and Cody stayed in Terre Haute. After three long months of distance, Cody and I took the beautiful road trip to move him to Washington (Oct 2019). The next month (Nov 2019) we found out...SURPRISE! We're pregnant! Our angel was due July 2020. But wait! There's more! Two months later (Jan 2020), we found out we were being blessed with TWO little babes! At that point we officially decided to move back to Indiana to be near both of our families. Over the next few months before our babies made their debut, Cody and I grew together even more as we prepared for our new roles as parents. When I started to get overwhelmed (thanks, hormones!) Cody was patient and so caring, always making me laugh with his terrible dad jokes and dancing around the apartment as he cooked me yet another meal (eating became a second job with these two growing inside me!). Thanks to an unwelcome virus, pregnancy looked a little different than we expected. Our maternity pictures kept getting pushed back, making us nervous we'd never get them done before I popped. Luckily we did, and that's when Cody popped the question (another surprise!) and of course I said yes! A week later, on Father's Day, I went into labor. Grayson Lee Helms and Asher Joseph Helms made their entrance into the world the next day, on June 22nd, 2020. I'll tell you what, I knew I was so in love with Cody, but I had no idea how much deeper I would fall the moment I saw him with our boys. Our story is unconventional, but our love is real and raw, and we can't wait for you all to witness its strength and beauty.
