The couple first met in 6th grade when Grace transferred to Tri-Valley. They didn't interact much until 7th grade when Cody asked Grace out for the first time. He ran up to her right after gym class and asked if she would go out with him, and then ran away. Another classmate gave Cody her response. Like most middle school relationships, they were awkward, and the relationship only lasted a couple of weeks. A couple of years later, Cody and Grace started their freshman year of high school. They were both in Mrs. Schroeder's advisory class. They hung out and talked with their friends during the break between classes and lunch. Close to the Winter Formal dance, Cody decided he wanted to ask Grace to go with him. He and his friend, Ashton Ruesch, went to Walmart to buy a gift (a stuffed pink cat and some candy) for Grace. He also printed out a poster that said, "I Think It Would Be 'Purrrr'fect If You Went To Formal With Me!" He asked her the next day during advisory, and she, of course, said yes! Grace was so excited to go with Cody because he was a cute and funny guy she enjoyed talking to anytime she saw him in class or in the hallways. They had a great time and ended up hanging out a couple of times after Winter Formal before Cody asked her to be his girlfriend on December 29th, 2017. After high school, they both moved to the Black Hills to start college. Grace spent one year at Black Hills State University before transferring to South Dakota School of Mines where Cody was also attending. On January 20th, 2024, Cody, Grace, and their friend Logan Colwill hiked Crow Peak. It was one of Cody and Grace's first and favorite hikes they did in the Hills, so Cody knew it was the perfect place to return to. Cody had a very special ring in his front pocket (no box, just freely in his pocket), and he planned to pop the question at the end of the hike. However, the snow had other plans. They ended up hiking as far as they could go, which was until the snow was at knee height. Grace was luckily determined to at least get a good view, so they veered off the path to a lookout point close by. As they were taking a picture, Cody got down on one knee to finally ask the question after 7 years of dating. Now, after a little over 8 years, Cody and Grace will be tying the knot this summer. We would love to have you all there as we want our close family and friends by our side on such a special day. We hope you can attend!
