Little did I know that when I was 15, at a church camp in Fortville, IN, I would meet my Forever. We would make eye contact all week, then look away real quick, just like teenagers do. My face would turn red, his face would turn red, then again, we’d turn away real quick. My aunt had come up to camp one day. We were both in the gym with our dorm. I found my aunt and sat by her. She, of course, asked me if had I had seen any guys that I was interested in. So I, so dumingly, pointed right at Cody from across the gym, and with my luck..... HE CAUGHT ME. We made eye contact, and I thought, “Oh great...”. Thursday night came around and it was the best night of camp because we had the video of all of the pictures that were taken throughout the week. As I was walking in, one of Cody’s friends yelled out my name and asked me to come sit with them. Of course, they had me sitting right by Cody. We still hadn’t really talked to each other, but yet we were sitting right next to one another. Friday rolled around. We got through the night service and then after, everyone was taking pictures. I was walking back into the sanctuary to find my parents, and Cody stopped me..... He said, “Some friends and me are going to Indy to ride bikes and go to a game tomorrow night. I was thinking you could come with me.” So I said, “That sounds like fun, but I’d have to talk to my mom and dad.” Then, he said back, “Could I have your number just in case you decide to go?” And that’s where it all began. Church camp. We haven’t let a day go by that we haven’t talked to each other. Three and half-years later, here we are, planning our wedding. I’m so lucky and so happy that he chose me out of all the girls at camp, out of all the girls in the whole world, he chose me. Someone once told me, “Why don’t you just go and date some other guys, just to get a better idea of what you want?” I didn’t need to date other guys to figure out what I wanted. What I wanted was him, and when you know, you know.
Cody had bought a photo shoot for us as one of my Christmas gifts! It didn’t seem that weird to me because we had gotten one before. We had also planned to go to a hockey game afterwards and just make a whole date day. I was pretty excited. I met him at his house, and we took my car to the Newfields Art Museum. First, we just looked around at all of the art rooms, which was pretty cool. We finally decided to go ahead and start taking pictures because it had started to snow really hard (making BEAUTIFUL pictures). They started out as couple pictures, then we each got a couple of just ourselves. Then, the photographer had we stand in front of Cody for a unique picture where I would be kind of blurry and the focus would be on Cody then visa versa. Then.... I turned around, and there he was. One knee and the most beautiful ring. Of course, I said YES! We didn’t go to a hockey game. Turns out there wasn’t even one to go to (LOL). Instead, we went to our ENGAGEMENT party!
