We're one of the success stories of online dating (thanks Hinge!) We actually owe a bit of thanks to my sister Abbie and her boyfriend, Leyton. Cody and I had been a "match" for over a month but we never even messaged each other. (ie. Cody said 'hola allie' to which I didn't respond) Abbie and Leyton had been looking at my profile and who I matched with. They quickly pinpointed Cody as the clear frontrunner and explained that I was dumb for not reaching out to him. We were on vacation at the time and we got back to the States on a Friday. We met at High 5 in Austin for our first date the next day. I needed to show him I could toss back a beer, he needed to show me how good his basketball arcade skills were - guess how that turned out! Cody wore a pair of shorts that had a huge hole in them. He had no idea. Somehow I liked that this man I was just meeting was more worried about the Cowboys than a pair of old shorts that should have been donated 3 years before then. I managed to show up to the date with a cute tshirt that also had holes in it. Although it was an intentional and a cool look, Cody will tell you otherwise. Now it's something we laugh about all the time - we both had holes in our clothes on the first date. Match made in heaven! We met for lunch and soon decided to keep talking and get dinner. We said goodnight and met up again the next day. At that point I think it's safe to say the rest is history.
Oh gosh you guys - when I say I was shocked, I was shocked! We were in Colorado with some of our closest friends and family to celebrate my 30th birthday...but let's back up a bit! Weeks before I was out of town and I had *accidentally* seen Cody's location and he was at Diamonds Direct. I immediately called my sister, Abbie, and told her the news. She put on a good front as she basically blew me off saying his location is probably off. I took a deep breathe, told her not to tell him that I supposedly knew where he was, and let it go. Fast forward to the night before we were leaving for Colorado and Cody said he was going to give me my birthday present early. He said he got it while I was out of town and opened up his nightstand drawer and grabbed for .... a necklace. I of course acted extremely grateful and excited but I was a little upset to say the least. Haha. So back to Colorado... here I am wearing my oh so beautiful "diamond" necklace as we're all going on a small walk to the pond at my parents house in Colorado. Cody had been acting weird all morning but again, just blew it off. Anyway, we get to the pond and we're feeding all the huge fish and Cody hands my sister his phone to take a photo of us. I turn around and turn back towards Cody and he is on his knee, ready to propose. I cried, we all cried. It was the easiest and fastest "YES"! PS - the whole necklace was a ruse! My sister actually did call Cody immediately after I told her that I found out about his location. Cody then got a bit of help from his sister, Brittney, to buy a cheap $14 necklace from Amazon to give to me to throw me off. It clearly worked! I couldn't have asked for anything better!
