The waterside bar where "There's Something About Mary" was filmed in 1998. Being very close to the wedding ceremony venue, this is a great place to stop between the ceremony and reception! "Today, after five expansions in more than 30 years, we’re a family-and-friends-run business with strong ties to our community. But one thing remains the same. The Hot Club is still the best waterfront bar in PVD, with food, drinks, and fun for everyone. Everybody in Rhode Island’s got a story about a great night at The Hot Club. Come see us soon!"
A beautiful place to take a stroll along the Providence River! Whenever Cody is visiting RI, this has to be one of our stops. It is within walking distance of the Omni Hotel. "This area represents a vital part of early Providence history, serving as a reminder of the water that covered the area once known as Great Salt Cove. Over time, the water was drained, landfilled, and by 1898 railroad tracks ran through the area to support the many industries in the city. As times changed and business waned, the downtown area languished. However, the River Relocation Project of the 1980s and 1990s brought life back to the Providence city center along with a reimagining of the water that once ran through it. Today, Waterplace Park and the surrounding areas are home to walking paths, restaurants, concerts, and WaterFire."
Newly opened in 2019, this walk along the river gives stunning views of this charming city! Cody and I love taking this walk with a coffee in hand. It is within walking distance of our wedding ceremony venue - Holy Rosary Church. "The Providence Pedestrian Bridge is an amazing new landmark for the city of Providence. The bridge connects Providence's East Side, full of shops and dining options, to the Innovation District, with its bustling businesses and facilities like the new Wexford Innovation Center. You'll find restaurants on the east side of the river, including Hemenway's, Dave's Coffee, and the newly-opened Plant City, along with shops all along South Main Street. Check out our East Side Historic Walking Tour Map here. On the west side of the bridge, you'll find the Jewelry District with plenty of historic landmarks to visit."
On the way to the wedding reception from the ceremony, can you spot the Crook Point Bridge? Bet you've never seen a "Stuck-Up Bridge" before. Welcome to RI! Iconic, really. "The Crook Point Bascule Bridge is a defunct Scherzer rolling lift railway bridge that spans the Seekonk River, connecting the city of Providence, Rhode Island, to the city of East Providence. Stuck in the open position since its abandonment in 1976, it is known to nearby residents as the "Stuck-Up Bridge" and has become somewhat of a local icon of urban decay."
Architectural beauty that showcases this city's rich history! One of my favorite buildings is the Providence Athenaeum founded in 1753. History says that Edgar Allan Poe frequented the library during the time he spent in Providence in the late 1840s courting Sarah Whitman. "Benefit Street is rich in residential, institutional and religious architecture of the Colonial and Victorian eras. Stretching 1.2 miles on Providence’s East Side, Benefit functions as an outdoor museum comprising both grand buildings and simple houses."
Providence's Little Italy! Historically, it is most well known as the heart of the Italian mob territory in Providence. Today, it is known for its exquisite authentic Italian cuisine. Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante is an RI staple - their penne alla vodka is the best! "Providence’s historic Federal Hill neighborhood spans iconic Atwells Avenue and the surrounding streets. Largely settled by Italian-American immigrants in the early 1900s, Federal Hill effuses a sense of warmth and community that embraces visitors and locals alike. While the neighborhood has evolved, the influence of the Italian people and culture is ever-present. When shopping or dining, take the time to talk to a shop owner or interact with a food purveyor, as they will likely share a story about the history of the store or neighborhood."
One of my dad's favorite breweries in Providence. We took Cody here and he loved it so much he requested this be recommended to all our friends and family! With Cody's stamp of approval, you know it's good :) Cheers! "We proudly brew everything on-site and offer a constantly rotating menu. We intentionally do not offer flagship beers, which allows us to put out new releases every couple of weeks to keep things fresh, exciting, and reflective of the seasons, or whatever our brewers are enjoying at any given moment in time. We are open to the public for pours, growlers to go, and weekly can releases. Nearly every drop of our beer is available only through the taproom + for cans to go at our home base in Providence, RI."
A charming little Parisian-inspired eatery where you can grab a morning latte or a midday cocktail while enjoying the view of the Providence Performing Arts Center. "We aim to be a soulful eatery that serves as a gathering place for neighbors and a place of rest for visitors. You can start your day with freshly baked pastries and coffees, keep the day going with a wholesome lunch, and settle in for the evening with friends for a glass of wine and a slice of cake."
A commemoration of Roger Williams - founder of Rhode Island. He established the settlement of Providence on Narragansett Bay in June 1636, on a gift of land from the Narragansett Indians. Cody is a huge nerd & he did lots of research about RI when he first visited. I actually had no idea why Roger Williams was significant before this so I had to add this one in :) I am a terrible Rhode Islander and my dad would be very disappointed. You learn something new every day!
