If you're in town the night before, we recommend strolling through Old Town Warrenton. The roads are often converted into "pedestrian only" areas on Summer weekends, and you can enjoy a variety of restaurants, bars, cideries, and breweries all within about 1/3 of a mile: - Molly's Irish Pub - Black Bear Bistro and Brick Oven Pizza - Denim & Pearls - Silver Branch Brewing - Wild Hare Cider - Altered Suds Beer Co.
Open on Saturday mornings. A nice, local spot to grab some fruits & vegetables--or just a coffee and breakfast sandwich--before our ceremony!
Take a walk on the Warrenton Greenway, an out and back trail that starts in Old Town and extends 2.2 miles.
If you're in town for more than a couple of days, we recommend driving Skyline Drive, a highlight of Shenandoah National Park. Located about 35 mi (45 min) from Warrenton, the Thornton Gap entrance--just west of Sperryville--is our favorite. Plus, Sperryville has a few local options to stop for lunch on the way back.
For out-of-towners who haven’t been to the Washington Metro Area in a while. About an hour and fifteen minutes from Warrenton. Starting from the Capitol building, walk past the Washington Monument, to the WWII Memorial, then the Lincoln Memorial, and around the Tidal Basin to the Jefferson Memorial. It's not a short walk (and can be crowded), but in the summer it's really nice to walk late at night! Fun fact: the Lincoln Memorial bathrooms are open 24 hours.
