The Colorado National Monument is stunning. Unfortunately no dogs or bikes are allowed in the monument. Child Cleo's favorite was Devils Kitchen Trail (around 2 miles out and back) and adult Cleo's favorite is Monument Loop Trail (around 4.5 miles, great run, recommend going clockwise.) Another great hike is Liberty Cap, a bit longer with some good elevation gain!
This trial leads to a historic mica and quartz mine, another great hike for families. Around 2 and a half miles.
Technical and fun mountain biking. If you want a longer ride, Cleo recommends the Gunny Loop.
By far the most scenic mountain biking in the Grand Valley and possibly the USA. Intermediate friendly loop: Mary's, Steve's, to Wrangler's. A bit more spicy is the Horsethief add on, don't be intimidated by the start.
Mountain biking. Something for everyone here.
Mtn bikers - don't sleep on this one! It's a big climb but do-able for an intermediate biker. Right on the cliff edge.
For kids! Life sized dinos. Enough said.
Incredible bread, pastries, and breakfast.
For those staying around here, these are our favorite spots - Lunch and Breakfast: GastroHub (behind Grassroots cycle), Cafe Sol, Main Street Bagels. Dinner: Bin 707, Taco Party, Pablo's Pizza. Shopping: Grand Valley Books, High Desert Authentiques, and A Robin's Nest of Antiques and Treasures.
Palisade has a great downtown as well. We recommend the Blue Pig Gallery for shopping! Plenty of wine tasting if that's your thing.
Hot Tomato for Pizza!
