Clay and Tara first crossed paths in NYC in 2021, during a blizzard, sitting at an outdoor table. While Tara, hailing from Vermont, was unfazed by the cold, Clay, coming from sunny California, was a bit more chilly. This unique start set the stage for many future adventures and travels. In May, Tara invited Clay to the beach in Maine for Memorial Day, where they were greeted with 30 mph winds, rain, and no sunshine. When Tara suggested walking to the Nubble Lighthouse from their hotel, Clay looked at her as if she were crazy. But Tara was adamant—driving was for wimps and so, they walked. Just a few months later, Clay visited Tara in Vermont to see her childhood home before it was sold. There, she introduced him to the local swimming gorge, maple creemees, her sunset spot on the roof, and the charm of a Vermont summer. Their exploration continued in the city, discovering their favorite spots together, from sushi happy hour at Zest to the best thin crust pizza at Gruppo and the most exceptional chai latte on the East Coast at Pause Cafe. The following summer, Clay took Tara to California, where she met his larger-than-life "Modern" family and explored his favorite childhood landmarks including the Malibu beaches, cherished local hiking spots and introduced her to fish burritos. In 2023, they moved to North Carolina to be closer to Tara’s family, and the very next day, they adopted their sweet and mischievous dog, Ozzy. Clay proposed in NYC on the Williamsburg waterfront, back in the same city they met. With views of Manhattan in the background, she said yes! Their journey together has been filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures, and they’re thrilled to continue their story with all of you.
