Just a short drive away in Holland, Michigan, the world-famous Tulip Time Festival blooms from May 1–10, 2026. Though there is still Plenty of bulbs left in full bloom around our wedding weekend! Over 5 million tulips light up the city, alongside Dutch parades, windmills, traditional dances, and more. I recommend heading out early in the morning to beat the peak crowds and enjoy the fields and displays at their most peaceful.
The Friday of our wedding weekend marks the grand opening of the brand-new Acrisure Amphitheater in Grand Rapids! Legendary performer Lionel Richie headlines the inaugural concert, with special guests The War and Treaty and Grand Rapids’ own Brian Vander Ark joining the celebration.
A short drive west from Grand Rapids (about 30–40 minutes) brings you to Kirk Park, our absolute favorite low-key and remote beach spot on Lake Michigan. With over a third of a mile of sandy shoreline, high bluffs, wooded dunes, and scenic hiking trails, it’s the perfect peaceful escape. Weather permitting, pack a picnic and enjoy a relaxing beach walk or afternoon lounging here—it’s a wonderful, uncrowded way to unwind.
Start at Gingin’s for an incredible bite to eat, then bar hop around Bridge St. The entire street is lined with bars of all budgets and calibers. For a higher concentration of dive bars, head over the bridge to Michigan St., start at Bob’s, and meander from there.
