How We Met - Monica’s Perspective

06.17.17

This love story starts where most do - with my brother, Oliver. In 2009, Oliver started college at the University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!). God set Oliver’s start in college off well by having two awesome guys live down the hall from him who also believed in Christ for Oliver to meet later; he became best bros with them, a set of twins, Austin and Sawyer Dils (shoutout). After a few years out of college, the twins and Oliver decided to reconnect in May 2017 in Atlanta, GA where the twins lived. As little sisters do, I tagged along, and boy am I glad I did! I not only met some of the strongest Christians and greatest friends I’ve ever had but got plugged into the community right away, something I had been lacking living on my own in South Carolina. I was hooked and decided to return the next month for their bible study and worship night. I met a lot of new friends that night, and it turns out that that was the night God would bring me to meet my husband, too!

How We Met - Clay’s Perspective

06.17.17

In 2016, I found myself in need of work when my dad told me of a job opening in Atlanta. Having zero desire to move, yet excited for an opportunity to start my career, I agreed to give it a shot and apply. I was hired two weeks later. Luckily for me, my best friend, Nick Allen, had just taken a job in Atlanta the month prior. I moved in with him in July 2016. Over time I met and got heavily involved with a large group of believers from several different churches - most of which all met each other through a bible study hosted by, “the twins”, Austin and Sawyer Dils. Within the first 6-8 months of knowing them, I had heard the stories of the twins’ best friend, Oliver, maybe four thousand times. One weekend, Oliver came to visit the twins, but I was unable to meet up with them. The next time I saw them, the twins told me about how good it was to see him and about how he brought his little sister with him. Little did I know, Oliver’s sister loved visiting so much, that she would decide to come back the following month for worship night, which I just so happened to be leading. That night, I showed up and was introduced to Monica. God led me right to my wife without me even knowing what was happening. The little twists and turns that made our paths intertwine is nothing short of predetermined and I am so thankful I listened to the Lord and took that job three years ago.

How He Popped the Question

06.17.19

I’m a nurse so I work long hours, usually until 11pm. That night, I got off early and met up with Clay to hang out and grab a laaaate bite to eat. He had sunflowers for me (our favorite), we grabbed some food and sat in the car, where we could see the city lights and listen to the trains come and go. We sat and talked for about an hour and a half (about how we met and fell in love ironically) and then decided to head back since it was getting pretty late. It started to sprinkle while we were walking to my door, so we ran under a pergola beside my building to get out of the rain. We were laughing and kissing and I could feel his heart beating a mile a minute through his wet shirt. As soon as I realized what was happening, he was down on one knee, asking for forever with me. I was shocked and couldn’t say yes fast enough!
